Most evaluations take approximately 45–60 minutes. The length may vary depending on your child’s age, communication needs, and the areas being assessed.

Many speech-language evaluations can be completed through a secure telehealth appointment. We use interactive activities, clinical observation, parent input, and appropriate assessment tools. If an in-person assessment would be more appropriate, we’ll discuss that with you.

Speechly provides evaluations from birth through age 20, including early-intervention evaluations for infants and toddlers from birth to age 3. Early identification can help families understand their child’s communication needs and begin support during important stages of development. Evaluations are personalized to each child’s age, developmental level, communication needs, and ability to participate.

That’s okay. Young children are not expected to sit through formal testing for the entire appointment. Play-based observation, caregiver input, interaction, and developmentally appropriate activities can provide valuable information about how your child communicates.

A referral is not always required, but requirements vary by insurance plan and funding source. We can help you determine what documentation may be needed before scheduling.

Coverage and funding requirements vary. Speechly can help verify available insurance benefits or provide the information needed to request and reserve Step Up for Students funds. Coverage or reimbursement cannot be guaranteed until eligibility and funding are confirmed.

We’ll explain the findings, answer your questions, and provide clear recommendations. You’ll also receive a written evaluation report through the secure client portal. If therapy is recommended, we’ll discuss a personalized, evidence-based plan and practical strategies to support your child at home.
